Officer Sarah Trieu of the Peoria Police Department talks about her experience as the first female motor officer in the department. In this YouTube video by the police department, she explains that motor officers are a specialized unit within the traffic services unit and their primary role is traffic safety education and enforcement. Born in Los Angeles, Sarah became the first female motor cop in Peoria PD in August 2022.
Officer Trieu initially had no interest in being a motor officer, but after starting her career working night shifts and taking DUI investigations, she found herself enjoying traffic enforcement. With the encouragement of previous motor officers, she took a leap of faith and became a motor officer, which she describes as the best decision ever. Officer Trieu takes pride in being the first female motor officer in Peoria and hopes to inspire other future female motor officers to join the department.
The Peoria Police Department posted the video in marking International Women’s Day in 2023.

These moments reinforce why I love working for this city. The Peoria Police Department has also become a second family to me,” Sarah said in this interview on YourValley.
